Do you ever wonder about your kids? I mean, do they ever have strange coping mechanisms that you don't understand and feel like are a little bit out there? Lucy rubs the corner of her silkie blanket on her nose and smells it over and over when she is really stressed out. She will even sometimes say, "Where's my blankie, I need to smell it." Cuckoo... When Shelby was her age, she would form the silkie part of her bear's paw into a point and rub it on her eye ball. EYE BALL, really? Preslie is pretty typical so far, she cries for a ba ba or twirls a curl of her hair to soothe herself. All of my kids pick a movie to watch over and over and over and over when they are sick or stressed out. We've been on Nemo, Polar Express, Yo Gabba Gabba, Veggie Tales Easter Carol, and Elmo in Grouchland kicks at one time or another with one of them or another. The repetition and knowing what to expect seems to really be soothing to them, especially during times of uncertainty, like moving or extended illnesses.
Jesse used to chew on his blankie when he was really upset. Sometimes he still does, but since we moved here, he has also taken to hiding when he is emotional. At home, he hides in our closet behind our clothes. I am always finding articles of clothing that I thought were long lost waded up in the corner covered in lint because he has knocked them off the hanger some time when he was hiding. Rascal! The other day he was at work with James and when he was scolded for something he hid under James' desk. Eric, our lead Pastor, was in James' office at the time. Sweet, he probably thinks our kids are wacko. That's okay, they are. Aren't we all?
Do your kids have any weird coping skills? Leave me a comment (& follow me) if you'd like to commiserate with me about our kiddos quirks. We aren't alone! The most interesting quirk wins a prize! If you don't have a kiddo, tell me your pet's or your own coping skills.
I am going to choose one lucky individual to win an amber necklace of their choice...Momma or child, your choice of color.
Suddenly, I have been bitten by the blog bug and I have some crazy plans cooking in my busy brain. Are you in? If so, just leave a comment & follow me. If you follow me, I'll follow you...Isn't that what friends are for?
I'll announce a winner on Wednesday night before midnight.
